Subject: Christmas left us Wednesday, Feb. 27 bianca, 38 yr old Female Date:Saturday, March 02, 2002 @7:15 AM pacific time [Click here to Reply to this message] Christmas was a puppy cocker spaniel of 4 months‚ that I’ve bought for my daughter and myself last December. He was healthy‚ loving‚ fun and so intelligent. Monday morning he was not himself‚ started to have foam coming out of his mouth and his head was shaking. I took him to the vet‚ that said that it was nothing serious perhaps problems with his stomach. The same evening at 11‚ he had again problems but this time very severe seizure‚ I did contact the clinic but they couldn’t do nothing since doctors were coming in at 6:30 in the morning. The night has been terrible for him‚ seizure every 15 minutes‚ I had to put him in his cage‚ because I had no idea what was the problem. I feel terrible now that I didn’t hold him in my arms until the next day‚ until taking him to the vet. I was affraid because it was something that I was not prepared at all to deal with. I had no idea of the kind of illness he was suffering of. He spent two days at the clinic‚ I gave my o.k. for treatment but unfortunately all the drugs to calm down the convulsion didn’t work‚ they told me that I should take a decision since his brain was swallen‚ I ask for one more treatment to try and remove the liquid from the brain but convulsions were still going on. They put him to sleep and I feel terrible since that moment. I know he was only a puppy. He had to suffer so much the last two days of his life and I miss him so very much. I was with him when he closed his eyes for the very last time and I felt that he wanted to say something to me. Should have I waited longer before taking this decision… I just don’t know. There is a big emptyness in my heart‚ in my home‚ in my every day. I never thought that I could love a little dog so much and get attached so dearly after only 8 weeks. I know he came into my life for a reason‚ to teach me something. I will never forget the last look he his eyes for as long as I live. Thank you for reading me. Bianca |

Subject: I Cried For Phoebe Mandy, 18 yr old Female Date:Monday, March 11, 2002 @9:00 PM pacific time [Click here to Reply to this message] [View Thread] I would like to say thank you for this web site‚ it is truly a help. Last Tuesday‚ I made the painful decision to have my dog put to sleep. Her name was Phoebe‚ and she was an appricot poodle full of love. However‚ she was close to 15 years old‚ and had suffered both loss of sight and hearing. She also had trouble keeping food down‚ and it seemed like the right thing to do. But even now‚ with all that said‚ I’m forced to wonder‚ was it REALLY the right thing for her? Often times‚ she seemed in pain. But at other times‚ she played as if she were still a puppy‚ still nuzzled when you pet her favorite parts. I did not cry when my uncle‚ cousin‚ grandfather‚ or great grandmother died. Yet with the passing of Phoebe‚ I have cried every single one of the six days since it happened. Guess that goes to show how truly amazing pets can be‚ how much love they bring‚ and how much love you afford them in return. I just wanted to again say thank you for this great site‚ it is a true comfort. And to Phoebe‚ and all of the other beloved pets who have passed on‚ know how much love your little beings can bring to humans. You enrich our lives. |

You might have read my message posted in the same site. It has been so hard for me‚ I had him only 2 months but still I feel a terrible emptyness in my heart. As you‚ I am crying every day and I just wish that I could hold him one more time. Also‚ even if he was suffering so much‚ I still am not sure if I took the right decision. It was a real comfort to read your message since I am not getting over it yet and there are days that I wonder if I am not too emotional. Time will eased our pain. Take care. Just be happy with the idea that you’re a decent enough person to have such loving thoughts for someone who meant so much to you. It makes no difference. Of course‚ it just takes time. You loved and were loved by another being. What better way to spend time‚ 14 years. You could always tells us about Tucker. Some of us have had only a few months. Was Tucker a dog. We’d love to hear more about Tucker. Honest. |

For eleven years‚ Tucker an Airdale ran with me. He loved to run with me as much as I loved to run with him. We both blew out our knees about five months apart and had surgery at the same time. Recovered but took to walking instead of running. He was my best friend‚ my companion and gave me unconditional love that is almost impossible for humans. I can’t stop crying and worrying about how will I get through this. I miss him so deeply. Linda |

Is there a day when tears don’t come to your eyes? Too bad we can’t all hug to help get through each of our personal losses. Linda |

It shows you’re special and that you can love‚ so easily. Grieving helps. We all feel guilty‚ it seems‚ no matter what we do‚ in some small or large way. But our pets know they were loved. That’s the best thing we can remember‚ that they were part of us‚ they bonded with us‚ and how you’re sharing your feelings with others. Jim |

Subject: A traumatic decision Webmaster, Date:Thursday, May 23, 2002 @1:02 AM pacific time [Click here to Reply to this message] [View Thread] The best way I’ve found to get a gerbil‚ mouse‚ rat‚ etc to bond with you is to hand feed them. Best way to do this is to be careful and don’t fill their food dishes too much‚ wait until then get a bit hungry then hand feed them. But PLEASE be careful to watch what you’re doing. It’s so easy to forget a few days and your pet can starve to death. That’s so horrible. So‚ please be careful if you hold off feeding them automatically‚ to feel them by hand. Gerbils require nuts‚ hard corn‚ you know‚ gerbil food. Too much sweets is bad. They need good food to be healthy. Wash your hands before handling them. Be gentle‚ oh so gentle and they’ll love you for it. If they ever nibble it’s because they were scared. Just understand. But all pets get very lonely if they have no one to play with‚ to get warm with. So‚ please consider another gerbil. Two females together are much easier to raise than two males. But once they get old‚ very old‚ you can generally mix male and female together‚ and sometimes even two males. But two males are very difficult. Best for you to be their friend. They need lots of attention. It may not seem so at first‚ at they may seem shy. But keep trying. Be gentle‚ understanding‚ careful‚ and hand feed them when they’re hungry. Let us know how your gerbil is doing. Jim |

Subject: Snickers Kelli, 21 yr old Female Date:Sunday, June 30, 2002 @9:15 AM pacific time [Click here to Reply to this message] We put our beagle mix to sleep yesterday‚ Snickers. She had just turned 6 at the beginning of June. She was just fine a week and a half ago‚ but suddenly after being misdiagnosed with a pinched nerve‚ she was getting worse everyday. The vet concluded that she had kidney failure…she almost made it‚ but a blood test showed that they had completely failed. We took her home for the weekend‚ but knew that she wouldn’t make it to Monday. She still looked so cute and tried to please us‚ but could barely wag her tail and she couldn’t even bark at the dogs passing by. We buried her in the garden in the back‚ were she spent countless hours sniffing at random things. I have never lost anyone I have loved before‚ so this is very hard for me. I hope I can convince my mom to join this website because Snickers was at her side everyday all day for the past 6 years and she misses her so much. I hope that this will be a good way for her to deal with her pain and grief. |

Subject: My Spicy Puppie Realpepelrcool2animals, 39 yr old Female Date:Monday, July 08, 2002 @6:46 AM pacific time [Click here to Reply to this message] [View Thread] What a cruel thing to do. Why do parents do this to their kids? (and their animals?) This is why its always important to screen homes when adopting out animals to people. I know in a way you should always ’respect’ your mom but for her to do what she did (the lies‚ the animal abuse‚ etc….)things could never be the same. You are wise to know that you should not trust your mom w/an animal again. People who are capable of this kind of cruelty are scary. Its a good thing YOU never did anything to tick her off!! I swear‚ if people COULD they WOULD surrender their kids this way. (reason for surrender: ruined the carpet‚ colored on the wall‚ didn’t ’listen’‚ doesn’t ’behave’…various reasons animals get surrendered as well. ) This was a terrible ’lesson’ your mom taught..that animals are expendable‚ can be used to ’buy’ happiness (but taken away as well) & thats its ’ok’ to be ’irresponcible’ w/ an animal. I shant go on …Im sure you ’get the point’. Good luck…this experience will hopefully cause you to be more responcible if you have kids (and/or animals ) someday. Animal companions are lifetime ventures…..not just passing fancies. Take care…and show your mom this if you dare!! |

Last night while on his potty break‚ he somehow got loose and was run over. The horrible‚ pathetic excuse of a human did not even stop to see what happened‚ leaving Cletus howling in the road. My husband rushed him 45 minutes to the emergency vet; however‚ it was too late. Cletus suffered a shattered hip and he died on the way there. I can’t get his image out of my mind‚ that suffering soul who was in so much pain. I just remember his eyes looking at me. I don’t know how to get over him. He was not only my best friend‚ he was my son. Mama misses you Cletus… |

See if you can give her a more balanced meal which has trace elements‚ or talk to your vet. Be sure she's not bored. Are you spending enough time with her? Pets get bored just like people do, especially if they are alone. Think about what it woudl be like to be alone, and love your pet. |
